DUPAGE WATER COMMISSIONER ANNOUNCES RUN FOR COUNTY BOARD, DISTRICT 2
DuPage County Water Commissioner from District 2, Elizabeth "Liz"
Chaplin, today announced her candidacy as a Democrat for the DuPage
County Board in District 2.
"I want to expand on my success at the DuPage Water Commission, and
bring that same commitment and focus to do what is right for all the
other issues facing the residents of DuPage County," said
Chaplin. "These arduous times demand creative solutions, and the
County Board needs a fresh dynamic."
Liz Chaplin was appointed to the DuPage Water Commission in September
of 2002 by the DuPage County Board, served as treasurer from May 2003
to October 2003, and was re-appointed to the DuPage Water Commission by
the DuPage County Board in June 2004.
"I bring with me a treasure of successful and energetic public service
experience from the Water Commission," added Chaplin. "And I want
to apply that same vitality at the County Board level. While at
the DuPage Water Commission Ms. Chaplin initiated their
Mission Statement and was responsible for implementing better
communications between the Commission and its customers. "I have
been active in upgrading the quality of life in DuPage even
before my service with the Water Commission," stated Chaplin.
Through the use of a private environmental firm, I persuaded the
Illinois Environmental Protection Agency to test private wells in
southeast DuPage County."
Liz Chaplin served as president of the Citizens Advisory Group from
2001 to 2003, represented the Citizens Advisory Group on the Governor's
Action Team, and recommended to state representatives that the Illinois
Ground Water Protection Act be amended to ensure that the Department of
Public Health would notify residents within sixty days of suspected
contamination, so that wells could be tested.
"I have been a positive force at the local level, also," Chaplin
continued. I worked with the Village of Downers Grove to secure a
state grant for $700,000.00 to extend the water mains in the North
Belmont Park neighborhood. I represented over 800 homeowners in
negotiations with the U.S.E.P.A, the I.E.P.A, the Village of Downers
Grove, DuPage County and the DuPage Water Commission on an
intergovernmental agreement to bring safe water at an affordable price
without annexation to residents in the contaminated area. I am
proud of service to DuPage and will focus like a laser on doing even
more."
Liz Chaplin is also the Second Vice President of the Indian Trail
School P.T.A. and a member since 2001. For the past two years she
has been a member of the Downers Grove Junior Women's Club and is
currently serving as a board member. Liz has also been a
Religious Education Teacher at St. Josephs Church since September 2000.
Liz and her husband Brian, a lifetime resident of DuPage County and a
25 year member of I.B.E.W. Local 701, along with their three children
have lived in Downers Grove for the past 14 years. The County
Board
Members from District 2 are Republicans Patrick J.
O'Shea, Lombard; Brien Sheahan, Elmhurst; and Irene Stone,
Lombard. A
Board of Commissioners governs the DuPage Water Commission, which
consists of twelve Commissioners and a Chairman. The DuPage
County Board Chairman with the approval of the DuPage County Board
appoints the Chairman and six of the Commissioners. Six
Commissioners are elected by the mayor/presidents of the municipalities
within a County Board District.
