Villa Park, IL - December, 10 2007 - Barb Dahl of Villa Park, a 40-year
resident of DuPage County, is announcing her filing for the Democratic
primary for a District 2 seat on the DuPage County Board.
Born and raised in Elmhurst, Dahl has a long history of grass-roots
activism in her community, more recently relating to road safety,
graffiti removal, and demanding utility company equipment maintenance
to put a stop to chronic power outages. "I want to be the voters’
voice, not a partisan pawn, on the County Board," Dahl said. "The
fiscal situation under the all-Republican board is a disgrace, and
those responsible should not be rewarded with re-election. The
taxpayers of this county need true representation." Dahl is critical of
the board's sales-tax increase referendum they’re calling a "Public
Safety Referendum."
"I will work to rectify unbalanced priorities so that public safety and
health, which should top budget priorities, will no longer be held
ransom for the passage of a business-busting sales tax increase. I will
also fight to prevent a home-rule attempt by Board Chairman Robert
Schillerstrom that would add insult to injury by broadening the power
to mismanage our future. Unlike the many full-time attorneys on the
current board, I'll make this my full-time job. The people of this
county work hard to pay their property taxes; I'll work hard to cut the
fat, find new revenue sources, and get the taxes working for the people
on needed services instead of pet projects."
Carol Davis, first vice-chair of York Township Democratic Organization,
recruited Dahl in part because of her record of tireless advocacy.
"Barb Dahl is a doer, not a political poser," Davis said. "She's worked
hard to bring about a number of improvements in our community. As a
health professional, she'll prevent the threatened cuts, due to past
pork overspending, that will jeopardize the health and safety of DuPage
residents. The people of County Board District 2 - and all of DuPage -
will be well-served by Barb's representation." Barb is an
Illinois-licensed registered nurse. Barb's husband Erv is a NECA-IBEW
union member, and was a popular contestant on ABC-TV's "The Next Best
Thing." They have three children.
District 2 covers all of parts of Clarendon Hills, Downers Grove,
Elmhurst, Lombard, Lisle, Oakbrook, Oakbrook Terrace, Woodridge, and
Villa Park. For more information contact: Barb Dahl at (630)785-2560 or

For the first time in living memory, yesterday the DuPage Democrats outvoted DuPage Republicans in a Primary Election. The countywide vote totals were 131,345 to 107,769.
“DuPage County is rapidly changing,” said Rob Bisceglie, Chairman of the DuPage Democrats. “Voters have been excited about our Democratic presidential candidates. But there is also a strong desire for change at the local level.”
“We have doubled our number of precinct committeemen this year. We have a record number of local Democratic candidates. We broke a fundraising record in 2007, which was an off-election year. These are all signs of increasing Democratic fervor in DuPage County”
“We anticipate a heated November election. We will be working hard to continue turning Democratic citizens into Democratic voters.”
