DUPAGE DEMOCRATS WANT ELECTION COMMISSION ANSWERS, TOO

Gayl Ferraro, Chair of the Democratic Party of DuPage County, today announced that the party will rally members to attend the Thursday, April 14th, 9:00 am DuPage County Election Commission Board meeting at 421 County Farm Road to hear Executive Director Robert Saar's response to citizens concerns about the Diebold Optical Scan machines, and the security of the tabulation of the vote.  Questions of the group were  submitted in writing as per the Election Board's protocol for public meetings. Mr. Saar refused to answer the question, though the Open Meeting Act allows questions to be aired in a public forum.

"Our party has become alarmed by some of the revelations coming from some local citizens who are being stonewalled by the DuPage County Election Commission," said Ferraro. "And, public officials tend to only build walls around something they want to hide."

DuPage County uses the Diebold Accu-Vote Optical scan machines, which can be hacked into.  Tallies can be switched, or changed, memory cards can and have failed during testing and when tabulated in the election. Transmission of the vote is via an unsecured modem line which transmits results the to the central tabulator.

A non-partisan group of concerned citizens, cites that the election machines have large security risks, and that the program which run them, called GEMS, cannot even be verified by the Election Commission.  The programs are considered proprietary and thus are not open for scrutiny.

"So, Melissa's only choice seems to be to take this public," Ferraro concluded. "And, to support her, we are asking any DuPage Democrat who is available to attend the meeting. After the fiasco with the sample ballot in the November General Election, I would like to hear some honest answers, also."

The Democratic Party of DuPage County champions responsible government that cares for taxpayer funds as a precious resource that provides accessible and valuable services to benefit ALL residents of the county.

Our goal is to create "Opportunity for All", creating job opportunity, economic opportunity and safe surroundings that protect every man, woman and child in DuPage County.

As the dynamic catalyst for conscientious voters in all 730 precincts, we will fight any corruption or misuse of county resources that wastes revenues or brokers power and influence into the hands of the privileged and connected few.
