DuPage Group Joins Democracy for Illinois In Fight to Protect Social Security

Statewide Local Groups Will Urge Congressional Leadersto Reject the President's Privatization Plan

NAPERVILLE, IL – Members of the DuPage Democracy ForIllinois Meetup are meeting with Congresswoman Judy Biggert's District Office Thursday, April 14 todiscuss their views on Social Security as part of a coordinated statewide, and nationwide effort by democracy for America to highlight the issue that day.

Democracy for Illinois (DFI) members will give individual testimonials to U.S. Congressional leaders highlighting the impact Social Security has had on the lives of local residents and urging them to reject President George W. Bush's plan to privatize the
system.

The DuPage Meetup group's Social Security meeting is scheduled on Thursday, April 14 at 12:30 PM at Judy Biggert's District Office (6262 South Route 83, Suite 305, Willowbrook, IL 60527).

"These meetings are a great chance for ordinary folks from Judy's district to let her know their concerns about president George W. Bush's plans for privatizing
Social Security," said Hiram Wurf, a host of one of
DFI's DuPage Meetup groups.  "We expect her to take
into consideration the negative effect that the
president's privatization plan will have on the
solvency of Social Security - and on the lives of the
people she represents, who depend on the program."

"Social Security provides a social safety net, not
only for retirees but for the disabled, and for
survivors," Wurf continued.  "Particularly at a time
when pensions from local companies like Lucent are at
risk, DuPage residents cannot afford to put the
guarantee of Social Security at risk."

Hiram Wurf is the Host of the DuPage Meetup group for
