Bill Reedy Announces Run for US House
Representatives in IL CD 13
(Downers Grove, IL) On Sunday, January 8 2006, Downers Grove resident
and businessman Bill Reedy announced his run for the US House of
Representatives in District 13, a seat currently held by Republican
Judy Biggert. The announcement took place at 2:00 p.m. outside of
Downers Grove North High School in Downers Grove. His prepared
statement follows:
“Ladies and Gentlemen, thank you all for gathering here today. I would
like to especially thank my wife, Cathy, who has been so supportive of
my run for the House; my son Tyler, who is here today, and my daughter
Rachel. Both of my children received an excellent education at Downers
Grove North High School, and we thank the outstanding educators and
faculty of this fine institution for all of its contributions to our
community.
I also wish to thank each and every one of you, supporters, volunteers
and staff of Reedy for Congress. Your help in getting out and gathering
signatures in good weather or bad, made it possible for us to place my
name on the ballot. Because of your enthusiasm, hard work and support,
we will prevail in the March primary, and we will win the seat in
November.
Thanks to you, I am proud and humbled to announce my candidacy for US
Representative in Congress from Illinois District 13.
Over the coming months, we will be talking a lot about our two main
objectives: bringing common sense back to the US House of
representatives, and enacting legislation that supports the common
good. Many of us have been dismayed by the scandals unfolding daily up
on Capitol Hill. Instead of addressing the needs of the citizens, too
often we learn that our elected officials are being bought and sold by
lobbyists for well-funded special interests. As a result, we honest,
hard-working families are finding it harder and harder to keep up.
Our elected officials should be serving the public interest with ethics
and integrity; this is just common sense.
Why is it that the richest country in the world, the United States of
America, cannot seem to find a way to ensure that every American has
access to quality, affordable healthcare? Protecting the health of our
families: It’s just common sense.
Ensuring that our public schools have the resources and support they
need to provide our children with an excellent education: It’s
just common sense.
Making sure that our retirement is secure; that corporations are not
allowed to go back on the pensions they promised to their employees
while providing huge bonuses to the elite executives running their
companies into bankruptcy; and protecting our Social Security: It’s
just common sense.
As your Representative in Congress, my mission is to bring the voice of
our families, our friends and neighbors, to the discussion table in
Washington, DC. With your help and support, we can work for the common
good, restore trust in the ethics and integrity of our elected
officials, and bring some common sense back to the Congress.
Thank you for coming out today. We are excited about working with you
on the campaign trail, winning this election, and most importantly, to
working on your behalf once we get to Washington.”
A former public school teacher, Bill Reedy has lived and worked in
