Good Idea
You won’t find me regularly praising a Republican in this column, but let me start out by saying that Chris Stull’s “Elephant Tails” is a good idea, and therefore I will use this space to emulate him. Political parties in Illinois are organized by Township and County. Warrenville is in the Winfield and Naperville Townships and of course in DuPage County. I will try to cover Democratic happenings in these places as well as our neighbors. I will not refrain from voicing thoughts on State and National issues when it seems appropriate.
6th District Congressional Race
U.S. Congressional District number 6, currently represented by Henry Hyde, stretches into the eastern part of Warrenville. Since Hyde is not running this time, it is considered an open seat. Christine Cegelis gave Hyde a strong race in 2004. This time there are at least two announced Democratic candidates, Christine Cegelis http://www.cegelisforcongress.org/ and Lindy Scott http://scottforcongress.net/. Peter O’Malley had also expressed interest in this seat, but has recently dropped out of the race.

14th District Congressional Race
Most of Warrenville is in U.S. Congressional District number 14, currently represented by Dennis Hastert. Democratic candidates are Ruben Zamora, who also ran against Hastert in 2004, http://www.zamoraforcongress.org/ and John Laesch. http://www.john06.com/
The primary for these and all races will be Tuesday March 21, 2006.
Committeeman petitions
Democratic precinct committeemen are needed in all precincts for the March 21 election. Chances are that your precinct does not have an elected precinct committeeman. Candidates must circulate petitions, which require 10 signatures. Petition circulation started in September. If you need one, you can get one in Winfield Township by contacting Winfield@dupagedemocrats.org, or from Naperville Township by contacting Naperville@dupagedemocrats.org
New Township Chairman in Winfield Township
Doug May was elected Chairman of the Winfield Township Democratic Organization in August. You can contact him at Winfield@dupagedemocrats.org
Events in DuPage County
You can find out about meetings, debates, candidate fundraisers, etc. for Democratic groups and candidates in DuPage County by regularly visiting http://www.dupagedemocrats.org/dupagenews.html. If you know of any events that aren’t listed, please send details to webmaster@dupagedemocrats.org
Earthquake in Pakistan
The following note came from Chodri Khokhar, Chair of the neighboring Bloomingdale Township Democrats: “Dear Friends,
My nephew in Murgala Tower, Islamabad, Pakistan lost all three of children and his wife's right arm had to be severed, however, she survived, as did my nephew. I want to thank everyone for their thoughts and best wishes. They have uplifted my spirits in this time of despair.
Some of you inquired as to what you can do to help out earthquake victims financially. By god's grace, my family in Pakistan is financially well established and does not need any donations. However, they do need your wishes and prayers.”
You may contact him at bloomingdale@dupagedemocrats.org, and send donations to the International Red Cross. http://www.icrc.org/eng
