The Good News and the Bad News

Democrats across the country did well.  Many of our fine Democratic candidates in DuPage County did well too, but none of them won.  I believe the Democratic Party in DuPage County could be more effective.  I’ll write more about this in the months to come.

The Democratic Plan

Some television pundits say the Democrats don’t have a plan.  And we don’t.  After the Democratic Party raises the minimum wage, cleans up the broken politics in Washington, works toward Universal Health Care Coverage for all Americans, starts the debate about a rational policy for Iraq, implements the recommendations of the 9/11 commission to combat terrorism, returns to the balanced budgets and surpluses from the Clinton years, works to secure the long-term future of social security…after this, we’ll need a plan.

New Naperville Township Democratic Chairman

All of Warrenville South of Townline Road is in Naperville Township.  The party organizations are organized by Township.  Tom Wronski is the new chairman of the Democratic Party of Naperville Township.  It will be nice to have a township chairman who holds meetings and answers his emails.  You can contact Tom at naperville@dupagedemocrats.org, call him at 527-8799 and find out about the Naperville Township Democratic Party at http://naperville.dupagedemocrats.org/

Elephant Tracks?

Either someone is stealing a page out of my Warrenville Today Newspaper once per month, or the author of Elephant Tracks has missed a few deadlines.  It would have been nice to hear about some of these Republican candidates for state office before the election.

Sign spammers

Large numbers of illegal signs littering the busy intersections and rights of way sprouted again this election season.  The number one violator of sign ordinances was Topinka/Birkett.  You’d think that Birkett, whose job is to enforce laws in DuPage County as the States Attorney, would discourage his workers from posting so many signs illegally on public property or on private property without permission.   The number two violator this season was Democrat Dirk Enger.  Dick Durbin told us he’d seen some Enger signs in some strange places.  Warrenville did a much better job than many communities at removing them.

lJohn Laesch came to Warrenville

The Democratic candidate for congress in the 14th Congressional District spent part of his last weekend before the election at a large gathering of Democrats in Summerlakes.  After two grueling campaigns, we wish him and his wife-to-be well!   He also suggests that those who had (legal) signs for him in their yards save them for use again in the not-too-distant future.

Be nice your Republican neighbors – some are distressed

Yes, we all have Republican friends.  It is a demographic fact of life here in DuPage County.  But we have to be careful not to cause further anxiety after this month’s election.  Here are some tips how to show extra consideration for that neighbor who might happen to be a Republican.  Avoid talking about selling our ports to Dubai, Donald Rumsfeld, the House Ethics Committee, Enron, Kathryn Harris, Halliburton or quail hunting; at least for a while.  If you have a friend named Brown, don’t call him “Brownie”.  Don’t hum “Happy Days are here again”.  The Beatles’ “Michele” or the Beach Boys’ “Help me Rhonda” would be acceptable alternatives.  If your friend gets offered a job at an Indian casino, tell her not to take it.  If their cat is named “Katrina”, just refer to it as “the cat.”
