Rob Bisceglie elected 1st Vice Chairman of DuPage Democratic Party
At a special meeting of the Central Committee of the Democratic Party on April 3rd, Rob Bisceglie was elected by acclimation as the 1st Vice Chairman of DuPage Democratic Party.  He replaces Mark Demich who had to retire due to an increased travel schedule.

Office Moves for the Democratic Party of DuPage County
The Democratic Party has had an office for several years in Elmhurst.  The address is 1000-7 Rohlwing Road.  It is near the intersection of Rohlwing (Route 53) and North Avenue (Route 64) in Elmhurst.  The door actually faces along North Avenue.  The move,
which is from one of the other units in the same complex, took place on April 14-15th.  The new office is not conducive to meetings, so the monthly meetings of the executive committee of the Democratic Party (for the next few months, at least) will take place at IIT – Rice Campus, 201 East Loop Road, Wheaton.  This is behind Taco Bell in Danada.

Non-partisan elections
Between the time that I write this and you read this, there will have been a non-partisan local election.  Offices in city government, park boards, school boards, library boards and the College of DuPage Board of Trustees were at stake.  You should have voted.  It is probably not surprising that people who are interested in local politics are also interested in state and national politics.  And vice-versa.  Last month you may have read a long note about the Warrenville non-partisan elections in Elephant Tracks.  That’s fine, but I think I will confine this column to information for and about the local Democratic Party.

Democratic Candidates for President in 2008 part 4.5
This is just a list.  You can find information about the current Democratic candidates for President at http://www.dupagedemocrats.org/2008dupage.html
Candidates on the list are Joe Biden, Wesley Clark, Hillary Clinton, Chris Dodd, John Edwards, Dennis Kucinich, Barrack Obama, and Bill Richardson.  I’ve already written in past columns about Joe Biden and Chris Dodd.  I also wrote about Tom Vilsack and Russ Feingold, but Vilsack has dropped out already and Feingold decided not to run.  Vilsack has now endorsed Hillary Clinton.  My favorite candidate at the moment is Bill Richardson, the governor of New Mexico, and former congressman, Secretary of Energy and Ambassador to the United Nations.

Dick Durbin running for re-election as Senator from Illinois in 2008
Durbin has well served the state and nation as a congressman and as a Senator for the last 11 years.  He has announced that he is running for reelection to the U.S. Senate next year.  Information about his senate race will certainly be covered in Donkey Tails.  His web site is http://www.dickdurbin.com/

Gerald Ford Museum
During a mixed business/vacation trip to Michigan, my wife and I stopped at the Gerald  Ford museum in Grand Rapids.  There were interesting rooms on his background, on Watergate and about the 1970’s, which I admit to living through.  In the election map for his 1976 race against Jimmy Carter, their map showed all the Republican states as blue, and all the Democratic States as Red.    Another thing that impressed me was a letter that Gerry Ford and other congressmen sent to Dwight Eisenhower in February of 1952, urging him to consider running for President.  That is almost a full year later in the election cycle than we are now.  Imagine if we didn’t have candidates for the 2008 election until after February of 2008!

Precinct Committeeman Recruitment
There are two efforts to recruit more Democratic committeemen in DuPage County for 2008.  A group has formed to “Turn DuPage Blue” called Operation Turn DuPage Blue.  It is led by Robert Peickert and information can be found at http://www.turndupageblue.com/.  Also, the DuPage County Party has appointed a committeeman recruitment committee to be led by Chris Hotchkin, who can be reached at downers@dupagedemocrats.org.
