COLONEL JILL MORGENTHALER, CANDIDATE FOR CONGRESS IN THE SIXTH TO SPEAK AT NOVEMBER 8TH MEETING 

 

On Wednesday, October 24th, U.S. Army Reserve Ret. Colonel Jill Mogenthaler announced to the local media and the people of the Sixth Congressional District that she intends to run next year in the Democratic primary with the goal to unseat Peter Roskam.

At her announcement, Col. Morgenthaler stated that she believes health care, the Iraq war and immigration are the most important issues to the voters in the Sixth District.

The members of the DuPage Democratic Club are pleased to welcome Col. Jill Morgenthaler as our special guest speaker on Thursday, Number 8th. As customary, our meeting will start at 7:30 PM with a time for socializing and refreshment and will be held at the Lombard Community Building, 433 E. St. Charles Road, Lombard. The presentations by our guest will start promptly at 8 PM. 

Colonel Jill Morgenthaler has over 30 years of military, government and private sector experience.  A Bronze Star and Legion of Merit recognized veteran, she is committed to continuing her public service by representing the working families of the 6th Congressional District of Illinois.  She is dedicated to protecting the safety and freedoms of District 6th citizens while promoting business and education.

Most recently serving as the State of Illinois’ Deputy Chief of Staff for Public Safety and Homeland Security Advisor, Col. Morgenthaler was responsible for directing Illinois homeland security operations for the state.  In this role, she coordinated state efforts with federal agencies such as the FBI and Homeland Security and provided guidance to Illinois Emergency Management Agency, Illinois Terrorism Task Force, Illinois National Guard, and other agencies to ensure that all levels of government work together for the prevention, preparedness, response, and recovery from natural disasters or terrorist incidents.  She worked closely with businesses to provide opportunities in emergency management.

Col. Morgenthaler has extensive military and disaster preparedness experience, both as an Army Reserve colonel and as one of Argonne National Laboratory’s Emergency Response Center managers.

As a retired Army officer with 30 years of experience, she has worked extensively in command centers in Korea, Berlin, Bosnia, and Iraq; handled disaster recovery during the San Francisco earthquake of 1989 and evacuation operations for Kosovar refugees in New Jersey.  Jill was awarded the prestigious Legion of Merit and the Bronze Star. As Argonne’s Emergency Response Center manager, she supervised the center during incidents and exercises.  In the Divisions of Electronics and Computing Technology and Nanoscience, she assisted in the transfer of technologies and assisted businesses in accessing research facilities.  Prior to Argonne, Morgenthaler worked for Software Publishing Corporation in Mountain View, California in marketing and public relations. Jill worked in the Department of Commerce, International Trade Administration, where she assisted American companies in working overseas.  

Morgenthaler holds a Masters of Strategic Studies from the Army War College, a Masters of Arts in International Policy Studies from the Monterey Institute of International Studies, and a Bachelor of Arts, Economics, from Pennsylvania State University.

Jill and her husband, Kerry Chambers have been a residents of Des Plaines for 16 years.  They have two children, Neal, 18 years old and Jamie, 15 years old.
