STATE TREASURER CANDIDATE TO SPEAK AT NOVEMBER 10TH MEETING
 ILLINOIS
YOUNG DEMOCRATS ORGANIZER TO APPEAR

At the October 2, 2005 meeting of the State Central Committee in Springfield, Knox County State’s Attorney Paul Mangieri received the unanimous endorsement for slating as the Party’s candidate for state treasurer.

“I am extremely grateful and humbled that the State Central Committee has considered my qualifications and desire to serve and has deemed me its preferred candidate for state treasurer, “ Mangieri said. “It’s a tremendous boost to my young campaign and I will do my best to demonstrate that I am indeed worthy of the confidence the Committee has placed in me to run a vigorous and winning effort.

The DuPage Democratic Club is fortunate to have Paul Mangieri as our featured guest speaker at our November 10th meeting. Our meeting, which will start at 7:30 PM with a brief social time, will be held at the Lombard Commons, 433 E. St. Charles Road, Lombard.

Paul Mangieri is no stranger to the DuPage Democratic Club. Paul appeared before the Club in 2002 when he contemplated a run for Lieutenant Governor.

Mangieri said that he decided to run for treasurer for the same reason that he has run for other elective offices: because he believes he can make a positive difference in the lives of the people he represents. He said he plans to continue in the mold of other downstaters who served with distinction as state treasurer, such as Adlai Stevenson, Alan Dixon, and James Donnewald.

Paul is 46 years old and was raised in Abingdon, Illinois and attended Abingdon schools.

Upon graduation from high school, Paul attended Coe College in Cedar Rapids Iowa where he graduated in 1981. Paul went on to attend Saint Louis University School of Law where he received his Juris Doctorate degree in 1984.

Upon graduating from law school, Paul volunteered for active duty with the United States Navy serving as a Judge Advocate General Corps officer (JAG) from 1984 to 1987.

While in the Navy, Paul was stationed on board the aircraft carrier USS Saratoga. Paul saw deployment overseas to the Mediterranean Sea and in 1986 he and his shipmates participated in one of America’s first military actions against terrorism with the bombing of Libya for its international terrorist acts. For this action, Paul’s ship received the Presidential Unit Citation.

During that same time, for his individual achievements, Paul was awarded the Navy Commendation Medal, Navy Achievement Medal Navy Expeditionary Medal and Sea Service Deployment Ribbon.

Following military service, Paul returned to the Abingdon/Galesburg area. Paul was engaged in the private practice of law from 1988 to 1996, where he specialized in trial litigation.

In 1996, Paul was elected Knox County’s State’s Attorney. Paul became the first Democrat in the history of Knox County to be elected to that position. Paul was re-elected as State’s Attorney in 2000 and 2004 running unopposed both times.

Paul and his wife Felicia together are parents to 12 children and have two grandchildren.
