GOVERNOR’S DIRECTOR TO SPEAK ABOUT ALL KIDS PROGRAM AT MARCH 9TH MEETING

In a rare joint session of the Illinois General Assembly on the first day of the 2005 fall veto session, Governor Rod R. Blagojevich urged legislators to vote for his All Kids proposal, legislation that would make Illinois the only state in the nation to make affordable, comprehensive health insurance available to every child in the state.
In Illinois, 253,000 children don’t have health insurance.  That’s enough to fill every one of the 43,000 hospital beds in Illinois six times over.  More than half of Illinois’ uninsured children come from working and middle class families that earn too much to qualify for programs like KidCare, but still cannot afford private health insurance.  The Governor’s program makes comprehensive health insurance available to all children – regardless of family income – with parents paying monthly premiums and co-payments for doctor’s visits and prescription drugs at affordable rates.
Joining us at our March 9th meeting to discuss the recently enacted All Kids legislation will be Leticia Reyes. Our meeting, which will start at 7:30 PM with a time for socializing and refreshment, will be held at the Lombard Commons, 433 E. St. Charles Road, Lombard. Presentations by our guests will start promptly at 8 PM.
Leticia Reyes is Director of Program Outreach for the Governor’s Office. She works to promote and increase enrollment in health care programs throughout the State of Illinois. Also joining us to discuss the All Kids program will be a representative from Illinois Hospital Association (IHA). The Illinois Hospital Association, with offices in Naperville and Springfield, is an advocate for 200 Illinois hospitals and health systems and the patients and communities they serve.
On October 20, 2005, Ken Robbins, President of the Illinois Hospital Association endorsed the Governor’s All Kids program. In his statement, Mr. Robbins pledged to collaborate with the Governor, the Department of Healthcare and Family Services and the General Assembly to work to refine the details of the All Kids program.
