As
a Democrat, I face great challenges in this county, where we havge had
a 100% Republican board with the exception of one term for twenty-five
years. During this time we had seen our taxes skyrocket as the
republican board spent millions on the their pet projects, ran through
$75 million dollars in excess funds from the water commission budget,
then threatened to fire 190 essential employees if a proposed sales tax
increase was not approved February 5. If that weren't enough to
vote them all out of office, consider this: they have doubled
their own salaries in the past eight years, now earning them a
salary/benefits package equivalent to $69,000 each; they were
successfully sued by the Citizen Advocacy Center for violating the Open
Meetings Act; and they want to broaden their power to mismanage by
seeking county home rule.
