The Democratic Party of DuPage County announced Tuesday in a press release that it had doubled last year's number of precinct committeemen.

Robert Bisceglie, chair of the Democratic Party of DuPage County, said their campaign to recruit new precinct committeemen was successful.

"In 2006, we had 117 precinct committeemen," Bisceglie said in the press release. "We canvassed all of DuPage County beginning this May, and six months later, we have added 120 new ones.

"This brings our total to 237 precinct committeemen, more than double our 2006 total."

The Democratic Party of DuPage County canvassed in Addison, Bloomingdale, Downers Grove, Lisle, Milton, Naperville, Wayne, Winfield and York townships.

"We are searching for community representatives who know their neighbors, love their communities and want to take part in positive change," Bisceglie said. "That is why we started so far ahead of the 2008 election. We will continue this recruitment effort to add more precinct committeemen. That will generate more candidates, more volunteers, more members and more elected DuPage Democrats in 2008."
